Michael Mendiola 

Michael is a writer, playwright, dramaturg, story editor and actor who creates genre-bending narratives rooted in identity, belonging, and social justice.

 

As a playwright, his works The Book of Dorothy and The Future's So Bright were semi-finalists for the O'Neill Theater Center's National Playwrights Conference, the latter a finalist for the 2025 Union Arts New Works Festival.

 

He collaborated with Shannon Denise Evans on Velvet Moon Chronicles: The Leveling, an acclaimed novel and award-winning web series, and the short films The Black Door and All Cats Are Grey In The Dark. All Cats was awarded Best Drama Short at the NY Indie Short Fest, the Excellence Award at the WPNR Women's International Film Festival, and Winner at the New York Independent Women Film Festival, among others. The Black Door was an Honorable Mention at WSXA Barcelona, Best Narrative Film at Top Shorts and an Official Selection for the New York Tri-State International Film Festival.

 

His TV pilot Scrap Heap earned a Quarterfinalist screenplay nomination at the Manchester Film Festival, while his short screenplay Zero Protocol took Best Short Script at the Montreal Independent Film Festival, Best Screenplay at the San Diego Independent Cinema Awards, and was a semifinalist for both Outstanding Screenplays Shorts and InRoads Screenwriting Fellowship.

 

Michael is a member of the Dramatists Guild and AEA, and serves on the board of The Project Solution, a nonprofit that funds infrastructure projects in distressed communities worldwide.
